Inspiring young people to aim for excellence and fulfil their potential
The Cheltenham School of Gymnastics (CSG) offer recreational gymnastics classes for boys and girls. There are classes in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. Gymnasts showing potential are progressed into competition squads and move on to represent The Gym Centre at competitions. Find out more information below or visit the class timetable page to see the times and locations of classes.
These classes involve action, balance and co-ordination for children who haven't started school yet. They are social activity sessions using hand apparatus, imaginative role-play, action songs and simple discipline to get them used to a structured class environment.
These are fun sessions run in a safe environment. The children will work on improving co-ordination, strength, suppleness and posture. As well as floor work, during the sessions the children will use a range of gymnastic apparatus such as beam, bars, vault and trampette. Those that show potential will be invited to trial for a competition group.
Any children showing potential in strength, flexibility and discipline will be offered a trial to join one of our competition squads. We have squads for girls and boys of various different ages and abilities.
The girls and boys compete in club, county and regional competitions throughout the year.
Children become more aware of their body. They develop coordination and basic skill-building and the regularity of gymnastic exercises will also increase muscle strength and flexibility.
Accomplishing a new skill offers children a badge of pride and builds self-esteem.
To meet their goals, gymnasts must work hard. It is important for kids to experience this correlation between focused effort and goal achievement. It also teaches them grit and endurance.
According to studies, cognitive skills are higher in children who take part in activities that engage both mind and body.

In gymnastic classes, students are part of a team. They are obliged to support one another, treat everyone with respect and follow all the rules. This sets them up with yet another skill: how to get along with others.
